Student health insurance Canada is a necessity for international students. If you're studying in Quebec, you must register for the university health care program, which covers round medical examinations and specific hospitalization events for a fee of 500 CAD per year. There are a few other options available to students studying in Canada. If you're unsure of which insurance plan to get, consider reading this article. It may help you choose a plan that best meets your needs.

iMED

iMED: Temporary health insurance for international students

iMED student health insurance is available to international students attending UBC. Students who are enrolled in one-term exchange programs or VIRS are automatically enrolled in the program, but they can request to change their coverage dates if needed. The monthly fee for iMED is charged to your Student Service Centre account, and may change depending on the type of study you're doing. New international students are automatically enrolled when they first register for classes, but returning international students do not qualify for iMED, and must purchase private health insurance if they wish to be covered.

Geoblue

The GeoBlue plan is available to legal residents of the U.S., permanent residents of Canada, and non-U.S. citizens enrolled in an educational activity in a foreign country. The plan's requirements for eligibility include that a prospective subscriber be engaged in an educational activity and away from their home country for at least three months. A prospective subscriber must also be under the age of 26 and not have any pre-existing conditions, or have proof of prior coverage. Those with dependents are also eligible to join the plan, including a spouse, partner, or unmarried child under the age of 26.

Aetna

Aetna: Health Insurance Plans

Aetna offers several wellness programs, including access to a directory of doctors, hospitals, specialists, and other healthcare providers. Members can access this directory in their secure member profile. In addition to health care benefits, Aetna offers exceptional medical support and case management services. The Aetna Student Health Insurance Canada plan can also help students save money on a gym membership. For more information, visit the Aetna website.

UBC

Health Insurance | Student Services

Students can take advantage of a variety of medical benefits through the UBC student health insurance plan. These policies cover a wide variety of services, including dental care, vision care, and prescription drugs. The benefits are accessible throughout Canada, so students can take advantage of extended health care coverage, which will reimburse them for up to $1,000 for medical expenses. Unlike basic health insurance plans, these plans also include travel health coverage and dental care. In some cases, the extra benefits of these plans may be worth paying for a premium.

McGill

Insurance | Student Accounts - McGill University

Students who enroll in McGill's student health insurance program are opting for coverage instead of rationing. The program provides coverage similar to Quebec Medicare and Hospitalization, with restrictions on maternity benefits. Students are advised to shop around for their policy as each plan offers different benefits. If they are unsure of which plan to buy, they can compare plans online. The following are the key differences between student health insurance and the standard health plan in Canada.
